Not to come off sounding harsh (really, I'm not, this is meant to be more helpful than anything!), but I'm certain it's getting mildly confusing for all of us, and I've seen quite a few posts recently that until the 5th or 6th reply don't make mention of what version of vanilla they're running. With all the branching that's going on and people snagging that odd number copy from the SVN Repo, it's bound to get hectic and the number of errors appears to be sky rocketing so I've devised this little checklist which *may help* (please don't hurt me!).

Ok, Before you do any of the following, by all means, search to see if the error already exists! Anyway, here's a few things you could do to help us help you, by summing up nearly everything in your first post:

    1. Telling us exactly which version of Vanilla you're running :) (SVN help is fine, encouraged even if you're crazy enough, just remember which version). IF it does happen to be an SVN copy, then please post it to the Vanilla Dev Forum first, that's what it's there for :D
    2. If it doesn't look like a pretty Vanilla Error and instead looks like something php or mysql barfed up into the page, make a note of the php/mysql version numbers.
    3. If you're not sure about #2, don't worry, copy down the following and save it as info.php<?php phpinfo(); ?>then upload it somewhere on your server. Either link someone to it to have a look, or report back the php version (in the header of that page) and the mySQL "Client API version" (which is obviously located under the "mySQL" section of the page.

This is a win-win situation, you'll save a headache or five and developers around the world will thank you!

Jesus lech i cant believe you made this thread. You're so retarded.

kidding! i love you really, you're awesome!
Just for reference, shouldnt vanilla 1 prerelease bugs be reported to the vanilladev forum too? And searching for the already existing error aught to be done here and over there too.

you're right – quite a few of the recent errors turned out not be errors.

    Something to add:
    • which browser + version?

    • which platform (+ version if applicable)

haha! well, some of the errors recently just seem so vague, I feel helpless attempting to help the other helpless folks, that or we're stuck repeating "which version of vanilla? which version of php? which version of mysql?" over and over again. And in some of those like jakob just mentioned, they might not apply if it's a JS related problem. Just hoping to get some pre-flight checks in there to speed things along, and yeah, it's been a fairly slow day here so I'm just churning ideas out.
