Hi, when I post comments, and want to address someone, I have to memorize the nick name, and then type it exactly as it is, otherwise people might misinterpret or get offended. Copy/paste Wis not a way out either, couse it pastes the invisible text like "comment author". What i am thinking is, it would be nice to somehow click the nicknake (with maybe ctrl button pressed) and have the nickname of that person automatically inserted into the comment that you are typing.. what do you think?

That would be a nice little extension. However, I do like being able to click on someone's name and check out their profile from time to time, so I don't want to lose that ability either - ideas?

Yes, simply single-clicking the nick should keep functionality of transferring you to the user's profile. I said "with maybe ctrl button pressed", meaning you should hold ctrl pressed, and click the nick to have it inserted, but NOT SIMPLY CLICKING..

No, no, no... simply copy the text in the browser window and paste it into the comment box!
No right-click, nothing fancy just a standard copy-paste.

If you can work it with the CTRL button and a click, and have it insert at the caret position, that would be cool :)

Wanderer - us PC mentalist firefox users get the following when we select-drag across the text, then ctrl+c (copy) and ctrl+v (paste) the nickname:
    # CommentAuthorWanderer

I copied your nickname using (Mac) Firefox and got this: # Minisweeper
Using Safari I got this: Minisweeper

So I guess if you are using Firefox it's copy/paste/delete the # on a Mac, delete the # CommentAuthor on PC.
If you are using Safari, the problem does not exist.

Did you copy forwards or backwards? They seem to have different behaviour. In either case, admittedly, it'd hardly a lot of effort even just to read and re-write someones nickname.

    Either way works in Safari.
Backwards in (Mac) Firefox just worked for me right now. (no hash)
Forward in (Mac) Firefox is very tricky, but it worked too. (again no hash)

I agree about the effort, although some people's nicknames are tricky with brackets, dashes, capitals etc. so I always copy/paste.

I *still* like the "CTRL+Click" idea to insert at caret idea best :)

Wouldn't the "CTRL+Click" method conflict with the OS contextual click event?

What about searching for the nick in the Whisper box, then cutting it and pasting it into the comments box?
That ensures you have the correct spelling, which was the initial problem I believe?
Does PC Firefox have a problem with that?

Extension inserts a little 16x16 px image after the name. Or plain text if you prefer. Click on it and it and it javascript-inserts the name to the add comments field. Maybe this would need a delegate (haven't looked).

Edit: only needs to be 12x12, if that:

Put the whole thing in a <span> with a unique class, style space round it. Maybe in preferences you can select between the default image, one in a location you specify, or just type text/HTML-styled in a field if you like the text look.
