Vanillacons allows the user to add smilies to his post. You can upload unlimited smilies which are categorized in directories. Use the settings tab to rebuild any additional smilies into the javascript and TextFormatter. (54 smilies included)

The files "smilies.js" and "smilies.php" should be writeable!

    Version 1.2:
    - Now works with friendly urls

When I click the download link above, the file that is downloaded still says it's version 1.1 of vanillacons in the code. When I upload it to the server, the updates page still shows it's the old version, not 1.2. (This also occurred with Who's Online.)
  2.  # 3
    Uploaded version 1.3 of Vanillacons.

    - Fixed version number
    - Added expandible container for Vanillacons
    - Moved settings link to Extensions options
    - Smilies now get inserted at cursor, instead of at the end of the comment

@jimw: rebuild your Vanillacons, then force-refresh your browser.

    Brilliant update to Vanillacons! pic

I just had to tweak the gap between the show-hide label and the category menu, it was too tight in Safari.

I also changed [+] and [-] to Show and Hide, simply for personal preference.

    Thanks Jazzman.

One of my users noted this morning that when inserting a smiley, it must be preceeded by a blank. If it is not, it goes to the beginning of the comment. Just FYI.

For some reason Vanillacons caches its stuff really well.
I went 3 days after installing new smilie icons before they showed up.
I refreshed once or twice, nothing happened, then I got distracted and forgot all about them.
As I said, 3 days later they magically appeared.
Maybe the read-me needs an ALL CAPS notice?

How strange. I just tried the insert again, several times, and twice it went to the beginning of the message. The rest of the time it went to the cursor position. I hate inconsistency!
    Great add-on anyway. Thanks, Jazzman.

Also, on our site (www.AndyMurray.com - using old version I guess since smileys are inserted at bottom of post), white-gloved smiley on COOL menu actually inserts :peace: from HAPPY menu.

I dont know if I did anything wrong but when I select a new smilie category apart from standard, the icons dont load up. How can I fix this?

also, I want the standard icons to display as default (without the + being clicked.)

    Thanks in advance.

    @drixie

I encountered this same problem when I initially installed Vanillacons on my forum (new category of smiles do not show, and they don't actually work in discussions). Not sure if my fix is the most elegant way, but it's a fix nonetheless...here goes:

Problem: In the two smiley files ("smilies.js" and "smilies.php", or something like that), the paths of the smiley files are specified. Those paths start with "/vanilla/extensions/..." Well, I didn't put my forum in "/vanilla/..", I put it in "/forum/..."

Solution: Sooo...changing those paths to reflect the proper path worked! All smilies a GO!

Could anyone shed some light as to which portion of the PHP I need to touch to dwindle down this extension so that it just shows one category of smilies, and eliminates the drop down box (category selector) completely? I just don't have a need for that many smilies, or categories...so if I could get this outta the way it'd be prefect!

Got it! Simple edit to "SMILIES_CATEGORIES=1" in smilies.php solved it.

has anyone figured out why the drop down menus don’t work.... I installed added about 400 smiles, gave permission 777 to the two files clicked rebuild and only the standard show up....

I did the Ctrl f5, turned extension on and off, I tried to reinstall....

Well there is 5 folders, but most are in 3 folder.... do you think I need more folders and space them out more?

    yea...

unfortunate forum memberI've been through over 100 smilies, and I just can't find the one that expresses my emotion...

Is there anyway to get these smilies to show up in Private Messages?

I still cant get this extension to work right with smilies..... The problem is with the drop down menu. What ever category I set for the default category gets shown and all of the :code: work 100%. But no matter what when you open up the smilies you cant change from the default category....

I have about 450 smilies broken down into 29 categories with about with a max of 24 per category. I have also set the two files to read & write.... This is totally kicking my butt!!!

I thought it might be a problem with my other extensions causing a problem so I disables all the extension on the "test board" www.mrpat.net/forum feel free to sign on as a guest user:guest pass:guest and take a look....

    Thanks

That should go without saying mate!

Never, ever use punctuation (except for dots and underscores) in any filename!
