I can hear it in both IE6 and FF. The position is different on the IE browser (right under Your're here!) and asks me to press the spacebar to activate the control, even though it plays automatically.

For the record, IE7 and Safari Windows both work as well.

Since the sound file in question "welcome3.wav" is displayed using the QuickTime plugin, one would assume any browser with this plug-in installed would have no problem with it.

    thanks all...

Wanderer, from what you mean follows that there is a percentage of users that don't have taht plugin installed and thus won't be able to hear... correct?

Very rarely do I come across someone without the QuickTime plug-in.
Maybe a Windows/Vista user can tell us if it's part of the standard install?

Is there a way to let the browser pick the plugin to use? Quicktime is ok but I really dislike the websites that would like me to install RealPlayer.

I believe you can in FF by Tools->Options, Content tab, then File Types at the bottom. IE is probably Tools->Manage Add-ons, or might have to configure it in the file types in Windows.

Is Flash installed as standard with Windows?

Nope - but both IE and FX have pretty easy on-demand installs for Flash and it takes a matter of seconds to install (no browser restarts required). I don't think you can on-demand install Quicktime like that can you?

QuickTime installs in 30 seconds after the initial download, can't remember if a browser re-start is required though.
Funny how all other media plug-ins are friendly and install well cross-platform, cross-browser, free at no cost but Micro$oft don't play nice with their active-x nonsense.
