Speaking as someone who never used forums much.
What was o8? and why is it regarded so fondly?
  4.  # 8
It was a messageboard mark used to run after dreamless shutdown containing the 08 - meaningless and shallow topic from dreamless.
Some people hated it, some people fucked it up, the rest (myself included) enjoyed our time there. It was always a useful way to waste time and was generally full of nice (helpful) people.
Like this place but less focussed on support and more on random shit. And private.

deel - yes, the busiest we ever got was appx 30 gigs of transfer in one day.... and the server barely slowed down at all. Gotta love streamlined software like that :)
  8.  # 20
I can believe it with the amount the threads used to jump around. That is a real heap of text tho.

30gig transfer in one day? So you got a 10,000 monkeys typing novels and just moved them from place to place.

Obviously I don't, 30gigs would be several hundred million lines of text. In a day.

    But that is amazing.

they'd just go to the bottom and add their comments regardless of whether it made sense

there was more than just text that added to 30 gigs of traffic.

There was the winnie, mcgyver, airwolf, a-team, epileptic, j-krew is a dirty whore, and the constant gibboning

wow, i think you should try and start up o8 again. Although maybe put more of a ban on the hacking.
  12.  # 34
as i remember it, hacking wasnt such an issue, more just asstard users and various relationship issues.

in-fighting doesn't bother me. All you need is a good disclaimer and your all set. Silliness is cool.

(Mark wont bring it back. He has already said it on numerous occassions)

It is a shame though. Anyone else game? I would host it if people really wanted it. What software would it run (Vanilla?). I have no idea what o8 wa like, so I would leve the management in the capable hands of a real o8-er.

I don't think it will happen though.

When I finally release the next rev of Vanilla, there will be the mini-vanilli theme available so everyone and their dog can run their own o8-a-like.

Here's the screen grab of the mini-vanilli theme:

I haven't had more than half an hour per day to be on my computer since September 1st. I typically use that time to check/reply to my email and come by here to help out anyone in need (that I can get to).

Hopefully I'll have some time in the coming weeks. Shit. Duty calls. Gotta run.

I'm a freelance contractor. I've been working for clients out of Toronto mostly.

I bought a house and took possession on September 1st. I've taken a break from programming of all kinds to do renovations on the house. Right now we're frantically trying to finish renovations because we leave for North Carolina on Thursday morning, and we need to have all of our stuff moved in before then.

I've been involved with every step of the renovations doing things like removing windows and putting in new ones to painting, tiling, replacing the master bathroom, and rewiring the entire house.

As I mentioned, this week I'm flying down to North Carolina for a tiny vacation. We're visiting friends in Charlotte NC, Wilmington SC, then going down through Charleston and Savannah on our way to another friend's wedding in Athens Georgia.

We fly back here (we're living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan now) on Sunday October 9th for another friend's wedding. Then on the 11th I fly out to Toronto for work. I return on the 18th of October and then I leave for Toledo Ohio on the 21st. I'm there for a couple of days to hook up with some friends who are starting a business with me and then I return here to Saskatoon on the 23rd.

After that I will probably have a couple of weeks where I can get back to work on Vanilla and hopefully get the next version out.

Oh, and thanks for asking :)
