This is the Lussumo Swell Blog.

Stay up to date with the development of Lussumo software
like Vanilla, and the Filebrowser.

Feeds

This blog is still in alpha and is missing many important features. Sadly, one of those features is RSS feeds. Patience is a virtue.

What is Lussumo?

Lussumo (rhymes with "bus-you-toe") means "love you more". Mark O'Sullivan started Lussumo in the late 90's as a custom-built web forum for designers and programmers. Now Lussumo is a place where you can get free, open-source software for the web.

Vanilla, Development, Release
I'm very proud to announce the release of Vanilla 1.1!

If you've been reading this blog at all, you are probably already aware of the changes and security patches in this version, but here is a brief summary nonetheless:

Batch Applicant Approval
You can now approve or decline membership applicants in a batch process.

Update Checker Upgrade
The update checker now also checks for changes to your installed extensions.

Security Patch
A new vulnerability was discovered in Vanilla by a member of the community which allows an attacker to perform a CSRF attack and change his/her role in Vanilla. A patch has been applied to the Vanilla core that prevents data being posted to Vanilla from any source other than itself.

Character Encoding Changes
For those Vanilla users who have been having problems with characters being garbled by MySQL, you can now specify which character set MySQL should use when setting or retrieving data.

Bug Fixes
A number of minor bugs have been fixed in the Vanilla core.

Download and enjoy the new version of Vanilla 1.1 now!

If you are performing an upgrade from a previous version of Vanilla, here are some upgrading instructions for you.

Problems and Questions

99% of the time problems with Vanilla after upgrading will be related to add-ons: Theme changes or extensions that use code from the core that has changed. These problems normally have very easy fixes and extension authors have little problem overcoming them. With that in mind...

Please do not post questions or problems in this blog. We have a support forum for that at:

I'm running 1.0 and am satisfied. Doesn't seem to be necessary to upgrade? Or are these sec-fixes vital?
But I surly will check the upgrade procedure!
